How You Can Help!
Contact the Jekyll Island Authority (JIA): You can share your feelings and point of view on the deer issue by writing to JIA Executive Director, Jones Hooks at jhooks@jekyllisland.com. Input on the deer issue from Jekyll visitors is very important.
Write a Letter to the Editor: Write a letter to the editor to one or more of the papers listed below. Your letters to the editor must include your name, address and phone number, and be less than 250 words, with the exception of the Atlatna paper, which limits letters to 150 words. The subject line should say “letter to editor.”
Contact an animal protection agency you are involved with: Let them know that you are concerned about the use of lethal means may be used to reduce the deer population on Jekyll Island. Share with them the handout prepared by the Citizens for the Humane Treatment of Animals on Jekyll Island as background information. If they express concern about the kind of 'deer management' the JIA is considering, ask them to email their views to the Jekyll Island Authority at the addresses above.
